Clinical Running Gait Analysis

Why every runner can benefit from a clinical running gait analysis

Running-related injuries impact 60-80% of runners each year and strongly impact the goal attainment and lifestyle of runners of all ages and abilities.

At Front Runner Physiotherapy, our team are pioneering experts in gait analysis, having been trusted by the running community for over two decades and through countless thousands of gait analysis sessions.

From beginner to Olympian, from Junior to Master, our team can provide a comprehensive analysis of your gait & provide recommendations to address identified faults and areas for improvement.

    • Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints)
Pain along the inside of the shin bone from repetitive stress, often linked to training errors, footwear, or biomechanics.

    • Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runner’s Knee)
Pain around or behind the kneecap, typically aggravated by running downhill, stairs, or prolonged sitting.

    • Achilles Tendinopathy
Pain, stiffness, or thickening in the Achilles tendon from overuse, sudden load increases, or calf muscle imbalances.

    • Plantar Fasciopathy (Heel Pain)
Sharp heel pain, often worse in the morning or after long runs, caused by overload of the plantar fascia tissue.

    • Iliotibial Band (ITB) Compression Syndrome
Outer knee pain from the friction of the ITB against the femur is common in long-distance runners and is linked to hip control deficits.

  • Our expert physiotherapy team will aim to ensure your technique, training load, strength and movement quality are optimised to improve performance while reducing injury risk.

Beyond the initial analysis, our team can become a trusted partner in the longitudinal improvement of your gait quality and adaptability through ongoing exercise prescription and education.

Our approach

  • Outline of a person running with three green checkmarks to the left.

    Assess your technique

We analyse your running gait to spot imbalances or inefficiencies that increase injury risk and limit performance.

  • Icon of a person's profile with a clock indicating time, resembling a resume or profile with time management or scheduling.

    Review your training

We examine your short- and long-term training loads to understand how frequency, volume, and intensity may contribute to injury.

  • Simple graphic icon of a lightbulb with radiating lines, symbolizing ideas or creativity.

    Identify risk areas

We consider your injury history to pinpoint vulnerable areas and build these into your personalised management plan.

  • Flowchart with interconnected nodes, arrows pointing from left to right, and check marks indicating progress or completion.

    Plan your progress

We design a tailored roadmap covering technique, footwear, strength, mobility, and training to help you reach your goals.
